A machine

**Ubuntu**, 64-bit, Intel/AMD or ARM. Both are supported and both are tested; ARM is

what a free Oracle Cloud server gives you.

The installer warns rather than refuses when a machine is small, so you can decide.

It should stay on. A server that sleeps is a library that stops filling and a television

that cannot play.

**Docker** is installed for you if it is not already there. If you have it, yours is used

and nothing about it is changed.

**A computer at home.** Anything from an old laptop to a small always-on box. Your

television streams across your own network, which is as fast as it gets.

**A rented server.** A cloud machine has a real address and never sleeps, so devices

anywhere can reach it — which is what you need if people watch together from different

places. Oracle Cloud's free tier is enough: 4 processors, 24 GB of memory and 200 GB of

storage, at no cost.

The trade is where your media travels from. At home it never leaves your house. On a

rented server it comes down your home connection instead, and the machine is somebody

else's — though everything on it is encrypted with a key that stays on it.

**A Usenet provider.** The account you already pay for. You need its server address,

your sign-in for it, and the number of connections it allows.

**At least one indexer.** What GeekStream searches. You need its address and API key.

That is all that is required. Metadata providers, artwork and the rest are optional and

can be added whenever.

GeekStream never asks for any of these during installation, and never sends any of them

anywhere except to the service they belong to.

Cloud providers have their own firewall, outside the machine, which no installer can

reach. Allow inbound **TCP 8790** before you start, or your television will pair happily

and then play nothing.

- A domain name. You are given one.

- A static address, or port forwarding on your home router.

- A Cloudflare account, or an account with us.

- To open any port at all, if your television is on the same network as the server.
